Responding to the publication of the manifestos for the three main political parties, Mike Penrose Unicef UK Executive Director said:
18 May 2017 – “Now more than ever, the UK needs to show that it remains an influential and positive voice in the world.
“It speaks to the British character that the main parties have kept the promise on aid spending. UK aid is among the most effective in the world, protecting 20 million children from deadly diseases last year alone. The British public expect our aid to be spent on the children and families who need it most, so it is vital that the UK continues to respect the international rules that ensure this.
“Additionally, it is important that the next UK Government continues to provide protection to children fleeing conflict or persecution in line with international rules, no matter who they are or how they arrive in the UK. This is not the time to be doing less for refugee children.”
