Support our Ukraine appeal

After three years of full-scale war and 11 years of conflict in the east, children in Ukraine are still at risk and need sustained support. The ongoing violence has caused immense suffering, disrupted children’s development, and torn the fabric of society.

Over 2,520 children have been killed or injured since February 2022.

Around 3.7 million people are internally displaced and 6.86 million are displaced outside the country.

Every three-year-old has known nothing but war, with potential lifelong impacts on their wellbeing and development.

We are working around the clock in Ukraine and neighbouring refugee-hosting countries, providing access to clean water, health care services, cash transfers and other critical support.

You can help children and families manage the mental impact of the war by donating just £5, which provides 2,500 informational leaflets on key mental health issues like suicide prevention, skills for promoting mental health and wellbeing.

Can I make a one-off donation?

If you prefer to make a single one-off donation, you can select this option on the donation form on this page or over the phone.

A single gift of £39 could tackle ‘period shame’ by providing 50 girls with reusable sanitary pad kits.

Please donate to help protect children in Ukraine.

What are children facing in Ukraine?

  • Over 1,600 schools and nearly 786 health facilities have been damaged or destroyed over
the past three years. They are lifelines for children’s recovery and resilience.
  • Energy, water networks and other critical civilian infrastructure continue to come under fire and
children living on either side of the frontline are under constant threat of attacks.
  • The ongoing intensity of war means families are still having to flee their homes for relative safety
elsewhere but incessant longer-range attacks across the country mean no child is safe.
  •  Children with disabilities, children without parental care, children at risk of family separation, and children in institutions remain particularly vulnerable.

How are we supporting children in Ukraine?

Through the kind contributions of our supporters and partners, here are some of the ways we are supporting children in Ukraine:

  • Developing safe learning environments: we are rehabilitating schools, improving shelters, and providing mental health and psychosocial support to children and families affected by the war.
  • Digital and distance learning: we are establishing digital libraries to ensure children can continue to maintain their learning despite the circumstances to help establish normalcy in their lives.
  • Remedial learning: we are training teachers to identify learning gaps, developing tailored learning plans and supporting teachers with lesson materials.

We are working closely with our partners in Poland, Moldova, Belarus, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Czech Republic, to help provide humanitarian support for children and families fleeing the war.

Additionally, we have also created Blue Dot Safe Spaces for children and women in collaboration with the local governments and the UNHCR. These blue dot shelters provide a safe space for families seeking refuge as well as providing water and sanitation supplies.
