This course is aimed at university lecturers involved with midwifery and health visiting education programmes and is closely linked to the Breastfeeding and Relationship Building courses to improve understanding of the Baby Friendly standards and how they connect to the university themes.
Topics covered include how birth and hospital practices impact on and influence early mothering behaviour, the differences between breastmilk and infant formula and health risks associated with not breastfeeding, physiology of lactation and the additional roles of lactation hormones for relationship building, supporting effective and responsive feeding, compassionate communication and the impact of responsive parenting and attachment on a baby’s brain development.
The course also looks at how best to incorporate the university themes and learning outcomes into specific programmes and will consider effective ways to assess student learning in preparation for Baby Friendly assessment. Participant will receive a copy of the Breastfeeding and Relationship Building workbook and a Train the Trainer pack which includes slides and information to support individual training sessions.

"It made me nostalgic for, and passionate about, breastfeeding. I loved the warm gentleness of the facilitators, together with the creative, beautiful images and quotes. Inspirational! I liked the practical exercises that I could envisage using with students."
