Adventurer, writer and actor, Charley Boorman became involved with UNICEF UK while filming Long Way Round with Ewan McGregor in 2004.

The next in the Long Way Series followed in 2007 with Long Way Down and most recently, Long Way Up.

Through Long Way Round Charley and Ewan visited programmes in Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Mongolia to meet children supported by UNICEF UK’s work. For  Long Way Down they saw first-hand UNICEF UK’s work with child soldiers in Uganda and land-mine awareness programmes in Ethiopia.

In 2020, for Long Way Up they travelled from Argentina to LA on electric bikes, visiting UNICEF UK’s programmes in Bolivia, Peru and Honduras along the way.

On their travels, they learn more about the devastating issues affecting children across South and Central America and UNICEF UK’s work to support children everywhere.

UNICEF UK Ambassador since 2008

Charley was appointed a UNICEF UK Ambassador in 2008. Later that year he reported on the effects of HIV and AIDS on children in Swaziland whilst filming The Missing Face, and documented the journey of vaccines in Nepal and Borneo for By Any Means.

A committed and passionate supporter, Charley continues to raise awareness of the issues facing children across the world and regularly supports our fundraising events and campaigns.
