Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club and UNICEF announce their partnership to help give children the best start in life

18th July 2024 – Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club today proudly announced a three-year partnership with UNICEF, the world’s leading child rights organisation.

Through the new partnership, Brighton & Hove Albion aims to use the power of football for good and strengthen UNICEF’s efforts to build a world where every child is happy, healthy, and safe.

As part of the partnership, Brighton & Hove Albion will make a significant donation to the children’s agency to help them deliver vital aid and resources, wherever and whenever the need is greatest. The strategic alliance also marks the start of a long-term initiative to combine Albion’s footballing expertise with UNICEF’s leading voice on child rights.

Together, they will co-create an advisory toolkit to improve and amplify best practices in sports coaching for children.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s contribution to UNICEF will help the children’s agency reach even more children and families with the support they need to survive and thrive. This includes when providing rapid response in emergency situations as well as delivering impactful and sustainable programmes with local teams to address children’s needs throughout their childhood and adolescence.

Albion chief-executive & deputy chairman Paul Barber said, “We are absolutely thrilled to be a partner of UNICEF.

“We are proud and humble that we clearly share many core values with UNICEF and that we could help them to deliver some of their incredible programmes across the world.

“We feel privileged to be supporting such an important organization, to create and amplify best practices in football coaching for children and we are excited about what we can achieve together over the next three years.”

UNICEF UK Chief Partnerships Officer, Mohini Raichura-Brown, said: “Every child deserves to enjoy a happy, healthy, and safe childhood, but global crises like conflict, disease, and climate change are increasingly endangering the lives of children worldwide.

“We are delighted to announce our three-year partnership with Brighton & Hove Albion Football Club, which will support UNICEF in its mission to transform the lives of the world’s most vulnerable children. With Brighton & Hove Albion’s generous support, we can scale up our efforts to support the wellbeing of children everywhere.”

The partnership with UNICEF will also benefit the Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation, encouraging knowledge-sharing and collaborations on future projects.

The club’s support for the life-changing work of the Foundation in Brighton & Hove and wider Sussex community will be as strong as ever.

About Brighton & Hove Football Club

Brighton & Hove Albion are an English Premier League and Women’s Super League football club, based in the south-east county of East Sussex. Founded in 1901, the club played at the Goldstone Ground until 1997. The club nearly crashed out of the Football League and out of business as well, as then owners sold the stadium with nowhere to go. Supporters rallied to save the club and bring the club back from exile to the Withdean Stadium.

Chairman Tony Bloom has led the club since 2009, and has overseen a prolonged period of sustained progress and success.

In 2011 Brighton moved to the state-of-the-art American Express Stadium.  The club was promoted to the Premier League for the first time in 2017, and in 2022 qualified for European competition for the first time.

The club has an award-winning charitable Foundation changing lives across Brighton, Hove and Sussex; strong connections with the fan base and community it represents; while the club also has key core values to create a strong culture to promote equality, diversity and inclusivity amongst its playing squads and staff base.
