Robbie reflects on the money raised by Soccer Aid for UNICEF in 2021.
Robbie is the mastermind behind Soccer Aid for UNICEF. The football match features two teams of celebrities and football legends: England versus a Soccer Aid World XI. Since its inception in 2004, Soccer Aid for UNICEF has raised over £75 million to support our projects for children around the world. In 2022, the match and associated activity raised a record breaking £15.6 million.
Soccer Aid for UNICEF is always such a special event to be a part of, and seeing the real difference made by the money raised really helps the importance of the game hit home.

Robbie’s work with us
Robbie has supported us since 1998 and continues to tirelessly fundraise and advocate for our work for children worldwide.
1998 – Robbie Williams was introduced to UNICEF UK by the late Ian Dury, himself a UNICEF Special Representative, when they travelled together to Sri Lanka to see our work.
2000 – Robbie travelled to Mozambique to see the disasters facing the country – HIV and AIDS and devastating flood damage. In that same year he became a UNICEF UK Ambassador
2005 – Robbie played a key role in our global campaign Unite for Children, Unite against AIDS. Alongside fellow Ambassador David Beckham, he recorded the ‘Blue String’ film to raise awareness of children, the missing face of HIV/AIDS. Launched on World AIDS Day in December 2005, the film was used internationally to focus people’s attention on this issue.
2006 – Soccer Aid for UNICEF launched in the UK, driven by Robbie. In the same year he travelled to South Africa.
2010 – Robbie travelled to Haiti to witness the aftermath of the earthquake to make an appeal film for vital funds.
2012 – Robbie travelled to Mexico City to make a short film for the fourth Soccer Aid on how we are working with vulnerable children living in slums and on the streets.
2014 – Robbie collaborated with David Beckham for the launch of our ‘Children in Danger’ campaign which aims to protect children from violence, disease, hunger and the chaos of war and disaster.
2019 – Robbie performs at the first Soccer Aid for UNICEF gala
2020 – Robbie takes part in our first ever eSoccer Aid playing FIFA against Usain Bolt.
2022 – Robbie returns to Stoke for a one-off concert, with proceeds coming to UNICEF. He also performs ‘Angels’ at half time of Soccer Aid for UNICEF
